Traditionally, swimming pool mosaics are installed directly onto a prepped gunite or shotcrete pool shell before the pool plaster finish is applied. When installing the mosaic, we recommend high-performance mortars designed for swimming pool applications. This will result in the mosaic being slightly elevated from the pool shell surface. Traditional plaster finishes are then applied after the mosaic installation, creating a level and flush surface so that the mosaic is embedded within the plaster. Glass and porcelain swimming pool mosaics are typically not used in stainless steel or fiberglass pools because, in most cases, they cannot be embedded to create a flat surface.
